OK, at the request of one Nolan Void I am going to try my bestest to keep blogging, even though I no longer have easy access to a computer. The change is that the school year is over and so is my job. On to other things for the summer. What a crazy time I've been having over the last week. Everybody insisted that I party night after night. For a Sagittarius it should be a welcomed request, but I've gotten kind of use to being a lot more mellow as I recovered from the car accident. A lot of the insisting came from The Ovulators, and it was refreshing to gig with our new drummer three times over a five day period. The most fun was the first one, tucked into Tina's garage to celebrate her birthday with a bunch of friends. There was barely room for an audience, but we still had one, and I believe you can even see photos on Mr. Random's site.

I can't believe the gig is tomarrow... it's our last performance with Kasey as our drummer. Tomarrow is Friday June 10th, and the show is at Luckey's. We're the opening band of three and Dan Jones and the Squids are headlining. We'll be looking all dark for the death of whatever phase that last one was. On to new life...

Last night was a full evening to blog about, with so many names to drop that I could get a typing cramp...
John Laney took me to the McDonald Theatre for my every now and then needed experience of White Hot Odyssey, this time opening for Hells Belles. I was so inspired by the all ages environment. I feel like such an ageist that I haven't put out concrete energy to play regular all ages shows. This is my new-mid-year's resolution: book some all ages gigs. I saw kids who I recognized from Roosevelt middle School, decked out in their weekend punk rock regalia. I watched their giddy slam dance moves and tentative stage dives. I saw many people from my past, my further past and my furthest past, all there at the Hell's Belles show. The first thing that I noticed when the girls got on stage was that their lead singer: Om, had been replaced. My first thought was: oh, those are some big shoes to fill. Om is an awesome performer with bug-out eyes and a rock presence worthy of being in a AC/DC tribute band. Indeed, her replacement wasn't filling the bill. The wild rock persona was lost. My greatest disappointment though, was when she shouted out to the crowd: yeah, we had a long drive from Seattle... we stopped at McDonald's on the way, got a Big Mac...
what was that? Promoting McDonald's to a crowd of influential youth? What a way to blow an opprotunity. I could only visualize a day where The Ovulators are in a similar position, stating a similar comment , but it would go like this... yeah, we just had a long drive from Seattle, we stopped at McDonald's on our way, and filled up our gas tank with vegetable oil.
All inspiration aside, we left early and headed over to Luckey's where Mood Area 52 was finishing up and 100% Chips were getting ready to play. I had a long talk with Greg of House of Records that jumped from one musical subject to the next, concetrating on the local Eugene scene. By the end of the night, all sorts of local rock stars showed up at the bar. It was one rock conversation after the next with people who I see often, and people who I see rarely. Tim told me that The Shudders have reunited. El Dufe was in heavy search of a good couch for the night and Dave Clark is playing a sold out show with Floater tomarrow night at the Crystal Ballroom.
The stars were clearly aligned for socializing.

I'm excited for the show at Black Forest tomarrow night, Sat. It's Test Face and Eric Jensen's latest project: Tractor Operator. See ya there if you don't wanna be square!

I think the sign of a good album is that it takes you some where. That's what the new Yeltsin does for me.

I had a beautiful weekend in Breitenbush. It's so easy to sleep there, it's such a dreamy place, must be all that lithium. Friends from Portland were there to visit also. We went hiking, we soaked, we sweated and we ate great food. Baby Nico is almost three months old and very into making faces while keeping eye contact and has a modified way of sounding out "I love you".
Then, I came home monday night to a fish bar-b-q and a boy who missed me. I am filled with sweetness.
